This is the celebrated journal of Mr. Simon Collison A.K.A Colly

Notes from the field

No public hangings today, folks

5th November 2004

Further to the previous post, I’m pleased to announce that the battle over the plagiarism of CollyLogic‘s XHTML and CSS has been successfully resolved. So, I feel it’s best not to publicly “out” those responsible, although I have selected a few choice quotes from the email conversations…

A quandary about web plagiarism

3rd November 2004

I want your advice here. I want to know what you might do in my situation. In a nutshell, CollyLogic has been ripped-off pretty blatantly by a lazy designer who also recently ripped off another website. I discovered this almost two months ago, and - rather than instantly “out” this disgrace and contact the client - I decided to establish dialogue with the designer and invite him to make some changes. This is because I am a gentleman…

Rewrite Redirect, Apache paths, RSS

27th October 2004

How many of your visitors make the journey via RSS feeds? A quarter - a third - more than half - almost all? Until recently, I’d not placed a great deal of emphasis on maintaining CollyLogic‘s feeds, assuming they were important, but not vital to maintaining a high daily hits average.

It’s Slow, it’s Blow, it sounds like snow

27th October 2004

Honestly, this is the last post about Iceland for now. You can look forward to some waffle about mod-rewrites and RSS in the next offering. Anyway, here - should you be interested - are four reviews I’ve written for scathing online music magazine Speakers Push The Air, plumbing the depths of music cliche to dissect performances from Slowblow, Gus Gus, Leaves and Quarashi. All photos kindly provided by Emily Dawes. Oh, and watch out for the swearing in this post, curse-fans.

Say hello, Airwaves goodbye

25th October 2004

So, Gus Gus on stage at 3.30am. Taxi back to Hafnarfjordur at 4.15am. Taxi to Keflavik airport at 5.50am - still drunk. It’s fair to say I am extremelly knackered right now. Iceland Airwaves is over for another year, and I’m back in drab, untidy, polluted England - and I need some sleep. Still, my fingers are working, so here’s the final installment…

Another day, another great line-up

24th October 2004

Here I am again, sheltering from the cold at the Airwaves press centre. Last night we met up with old friends in Reykjavik, dodging about between Kaffibarinn, Vegamot and other cosy little bars, consuming plenty of Viking ale. I must admit to having slept in all morning yesterday, followed by a very lazy day indeed…

Domino Records Night at Hafnarhus

22nd October 2004

Last night was special. Domino Records hosted a unique gig inside Reykjavik’s incredible Hafnarhus (Harbour Gallery), featuring Fourtet, Adem, To Rococo Rot, Leeds boys Hood and Iceland’s own amazing Slowblow. Read on for more…

Immeasurable happiness

22nd October 2004

I’m back in Iceland! I’m so happy. It doesn’t matter that icelandair have lost all of my possessions, because I’m here, and I don’t care. I’m sitting in the official Airwaves Festival bar (Hressingarsklin) - it’s all super wi-fi’d, laid back, comfy, warm. Bands are being interviewed all around me. The chap from Fourtet just walked by. It’s table-service-a-go-go, and I’ve never seen so many Apple products in one place. The guy with the 17” Powerbook looks particularly smug.

Iceland Airwaves

20th October 2004

Woo-hoo! The music week continues tomorrow, as we head off to my old home (Iceland) for the Airwaves Festival in downtown Reykjavik - four days of mind-bending noise in the land of fire, ice and hot-dogs.

Primal Scream all-nighter in Brixton

18th October 2004

Last night I completed a hat-trick of Primal Scream gigs at London’s vast Brixton Academy. I first saw them there in 2000, then again in 2002, and now once more in 2004.
