Quite a lot of people know that I lived in Iceland for a total of around a year, and I therefore get lots of emails asking about things to see and do in Reykjavík. To save me the trouble of writing back every time, I decided to post up my must-see list here.
For those that email and ask me what happened to Music Monthlies, I bring you a lazy update. No links, no info, just my January playlist. New bands, or old bands with good new albums.
According to a new Littlewoods Pools survey (more about the survey here), my football team are officially the worst team to support. I quote Ian Morgan over at 24dash.com:
I was penning a new Music Monthly, as I’m getting numerous requests to bring them back. Part of this forthcoming installment was a long and winding rant about The Killers.
Last week, in an attempt offset the mammoth workload and do something without pixels, I assembled all of my gig tickets from the last fifteen years.
I’m pleased to announce that Simon (yes, another one, but not that one etc) has just won the right to adopt Maphi. Madonna was interested, but she didn’t complete all the necessary paperwork, so she buggered off to buy a baby in Malawi instead. Anyway, nothing made me chuckle as much as Simon’s suggested use for Maphi:
Colly here, interrupting the guest author’s flow with a quick competition. I have a wonderful 8” vinyl Pete Fowler Tribes of Monsterism figure to give away, seeing as somebody just sent me the full set! Specifically, his name is Maphi, and I have owned him for a year. He appeared in one of the Kia (car) animated ads on the telly. In case you don’t know, Fowler is the chap who has designed most of The Super Furry Animals album covers over the years. It is a must-have useless ornament!
There are a few things I’d love to write about, but can’t - not until Monday. So, for now I’ll share something very personal. Here are the lyrics to a song about a man who imagines he’s married his girlfriend on a nightbus. This song reflects where my head is at right now, on many levels. This may not be what you assume. I’d tell you who the song is by, but then it wouldn’t be mine any more…
I’m not into computer games - never was, although I did get into quite a few football (soccer) games here and there. I was also once renowned for being able to beat anyone at Tekken after ten pints of ale, finding “special moves” like someone who actually cared.
For past client launches and events, we’ve managed to bring Belle & Sebastian, Steve Mason (Beta Band), Gobsausage, various Poptones artists and Alan McGee’s Death Disco to Nottingham.
